Executive Summary & Origin

SkyeBrowse is a software platform utilizing patented videogrammetry technology to rapidly create accurate 3D models and 2D maps from simple video footage. Developed from university research spurred by founder Bobby's experience highlighting the need for faster accident reconstruction, its mission is to "Standardize the Specialist," making advanced mapping accessible. SkyeBrowse has an office in Dallas, Texas. It's used by over 1,200 agencies worldwide, primarily in public safety, but also construction and insurance. Key benefits include transforming complex 3D documentation into a fast, easy process using continuous video (from drones, phones, etc.) instead of thousands of photos, enabling cloud processing in minutes. Models are accessed via https://app.skyebrowse.com. While the SkyeBrowse Flight App automates capture for specific drones, the Universal Upload feature supports nearly any .MP4 or .MOV video source.

Section 1: Core Technology & Accuracy

Videogrammetry vs. Photogrammetry

  • Photogrammetry (Traditional): Uses hundreds/thousands of overlapping still photos. Slower capture and computationally intensive processing (hours/days). Centimeter-level accuracy achievable, but requires GCPs, trained specialists, and significant post-processing to reach survey-grade results.
  • Videogrammetry (SkyeBrowse): Uses frames from a single, continuous video file. Allows faster capture. Proprietary cloud algorithms process in ~1 minute per minute of video (most models ready in under 5-10 minutes after upload). Validated in studies to meet or exceed traditional photogrammetry and laser scanning accuracy — achieving survey-grade, court-admissible results (down to 0.1 inch on Premium Advanced) without GCPs or specialists.

Accuracy

  • Survey-Grade Accuracy: SkyeBrowse Premium and Premium Advanced plans deliver survey-grade, court-admissible accuracy without requiring Ground Control Points (GCPs).
  • Premium: Highest resolution/accuracy (down to cm / tenth-of-an-inch levels).
  • Lite: Good accuracy (~2-6 inches) suitable for general scene documentation.

SkyeBrowse achieves survey-grade relative and absolute accuracy without GCPs through its proprietary videogrammetry algorithms. RTK-enabled drones further enhance positional accuracy, and scene references (e.g., measuring tapes placed in the scene) provide additional verification — but neither is required to achieve survey-grade results. Models can be georeferenced using drone GPS data (SRT/ASS files). Recommend placing known-size objects in scene for verification. Limitation: Processes video only for 3D model generation. Photos can only be attached as annotations.

Section 2: Key Features and Functionality

2.1: SkyeBrowse Flight App (for Supported Drones/Controllers)

  • Purpose: Automates video capture for supported drones (specific DJI/Autel models with specific controllers/OS - Autel requires iOS ONLY). Always refer to official Supported Drones list.
  • Recent Support Expansion: Current examples of supported newer DJI platforms include Mini 4 Pro, Matrice 4E/4T, and Matrice 400 when used with the required compatible controller. The app has also received recent WideBrowse and mission workflow improvements.
  • Modes:
    • SkyeBrowse (Orbit): Automated 2-orbit flight for small scenes (<1 acre).
    • WideBrowse (Grid): Automated grid flight for larger areas (>1 acre). Features include:
      • Cross Grids: Perpendicular flight path following initial pass for superior lateral coverage and detail in structured scenes.
      • Side Scan: Orbital pass for verticality, capturing facades and high-rises with precision.
      • Previous Flights: View and reuse settings from completed WideBrowse missions (location, date, time).
      • (Note: Not on all supported drones due to SDK limits, e.g., Mini 2/3 series, Air 2S. Use Universal Upload for these.)
  • Limitations: Drone/controller/OS compatibility is crucial. Uses drone's native obstacle avoidance.

2.2: Universal Upload (Core Feature - ANY Video Source)

  • Purpose: Upload .MP4 or .MOV video from ANY device via https://app.skyebrowse.com.
  • Sources: Manual drone flights (DJI, Autel, Skydio, Parrot), smartphones, action cameras, 360 cameras (exported video), Body Worn Cameras (BWC). Essential for drones not supported by Flight App. DJI Avata 360 videos are supported through Universal Upload either in OSV format or as a 360 MP4 video exported through DJI Studio.
  • Accepted File Types: MP4, MOV, INSV, and OSV. Insta360 360-camera footage can be uploaded directly in its native .INSV or .OSV file with no conversion to MP4 required.
  • Georeferencing: Uploading drone's GPS subtitle file (.SRT for DJI, .ASS for Autel) with video automatically georeferences the model. Enable GPS subtitle recording in drone settings.
  • Interior Mapping Option: Toggle optimizes for indoor environments (requires specific slow/steady capture). Premium plans feature enhanced algorithms for significantly more detailed and accurate indoor models.
  • Capture Tips: The upload flow includes a short capture-guidance walkthrough for new users. Key guidance: move around the subject rather than panning in place, keep zoom locked, capture from multiple angles, combine grid coverage with orbits for larger scenes, keep motion smooth, avoid excessive sky/ceiling, finish with overlap, and avoid glass, water, mirrors, blank surfaces, and uneven lighting.
  • Training Mode: Premium and Premium Advanced users can toggle Training Mode in the upload flow. Training models do not count against model credits and auto-delete after 90 days.

2.3: Rapid Upload

  • Overview: Does some of the processing on your side and makes the video file 10X smaller.
  • Processing Speed: Processing takes 2 minutes tops.
  • Use Cases: It is good for people who need a very quick 3D model or if they're in an area with bad GPS.

2.4: Cloud Platform & Processing

  • Accessibility: 100% cloud-based (https://app.skyebrowse.com), browser-accessible (Chrome recommended). No desktop software.
  • Security: Hosted on AWS Cloud (US), FedRAMP Impact Level 2. Supports CJIS compliance requirements. Full CJIS compliance adherence is specifically offered and maintained for Premium plan subscribers.
  • Chain of Custody: Logs model access, user actions, sharing. 2FA available.
  • Processing Speed: Ultra-fast (minutes) after upload (depends on user internet). Premium may include priority processing.
  • SkyeBrowse Thinking (Reprocessing): Reprocessing uses SkyeBrowse Thinking — our AI analyzes your 3D model quality in real-time and automatically redoes it until it meets our standards. No extra effort required. This is turned on by default for Premium Advanced users.
  • Real-Time DFR Context: SkyeBrowse has announced a Paladin integration for near real-time 3D modeling in Drone as First Responder workflows. Treat this as a specialized partner workflow rather than the default upload path for all users.

2.5: SkyeBrowse Viewer & Analysis Tools

(Access depends on Freemium, Lite, Premium plan or Pay-Per-Model unlock)

  • Navigation: Standard Zoom, Orbit, Pan, plus two camera modes in the View controls: Bird View (overhead, aerial-style movement over the model) and Walk Mode (first-person, ground-level navigation with WASD keys, an adjustable move-speed slider, and an adjustable eye-height slider; a surface cursor ring shows where you are standing on the model, and Escape exits). Walk Mode lets users walk through a scene at eye level, useful for crime scenes, crash sites, interiors, and real-estate walkthroughs.
  • Tool Search: The viewer has a tool search/command palette so users can quickly find tools by name or section instead of hunting through panels. Open it with Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows).
  • Create Tools: The viewer Create section includes Screenshot, AI Floor Plans, AI Site Plan (CAD), Flythrough Video, and Sketch Drawing. All viewer tools that are normally gated are temporarily available to everyone through July 31, 2026; Freemium and Lite users see a limited-time access popup before using gated viewer tools during that period.
  • Basic Tools (All Plans): Auto-generated top-down Orthomosaic Map, Draw Tool, Distance measurement, and Annotate tool. Through July 31, 2026, all gated viewer tools are also available to everyone; Freemium and Lite users see a limited-time access popup before using those promotional tools.
  • AI Floor Plans: Generates a detailed floor plan for interior models in under 30 seconds with a single click. Two modes: Full Model (uses the entire model; free for all users) and Select Area (draw a box on a top-down view to floor-plan just that area; paid plans).
  • Sketch Drawing: Generates a clean sketch image from the model for quick diagramming. Two scope options: Current View (captures the on-screen camera angle, composited with a north-up compass and a view-direction arrow) and Entire Scene (the standard north-up top-down view of the full model). Sketch output can include annotation callouts, a scale bar when the model is georeferenced or manually scaled, and a compass when the model is georeferenced. It is included in the limited-time gated viewer tool access through July 31, 2026, then returns to normal plan gating.
  • Flythrough Video Export: Record shareable flythrough videos of any model directly in the viewer. Free styles on all plans: Cinematic Intro (replays the model loading animation) and Free Record (the second option in the Flythrough Video dialog; records the live viewer as an MP4 while you navigate freely, with a floating Start/Stop control centered above the 3D/2D/Map bar that stays out of the recording itself). Paid plans (Lite and above) unlock five additional camera-path styles: 360° Orbit (seamless loop around the model), Top-Down Sweep (overhead pan across the site), Sweep + Orbit, Measurement Tour (visits each measurement and annotation), and Flight Path (re-flies the original capture path). A Video Length slider sets recording duration from 5 to 60 seconds; Flight Path defaults to half the original capture duration.
  • View Options Panel: A "View" control in the viewer top bar for display settings: texture/display mode, measurement units, auto-rotate, and toggles for walkthrough cameras and the camera path line.
  • Measurement & Standard Analysis Tools (Lite/Premium/PPM for model unlock): Area, Angle, Clip Tool (hide parts), Scale Tool (for non-georeferenced models), GPS Tool (view coordinates).
  • Line of Sight: Shows what is visible or hidden from a chosen observer point on the textured model. Green indicates visible areas and red indicates blocked/hidden areas. Supports up to two observer points: click once to place a 1-way Line of Sight; click a second time to add a second observer for a 2-way comparison showing what each point can see simultaneously. Clicking the tool when two observers are active clears all. Users can adjust the observer location, viewing direction, range, and field of view. Each Line of Sight can be named when it is placed and renamed later from the object tree, with the name shown on a pill beside the observer's camera handle. Included in the limited-time gated viewer tool access through July 31, 2026, then returns to normal plan gating.
  • Public Safety Icons: A viewer marker tool, labeled "Icons" in the Measure tools, that places standardized public-safety map symbols directly on the 3D model for scene documentation and pre-planning. A searchable icon picker covers fire, law enforcement, and EMS symbology from the NAPSG (National Alliance for Public Safety GIS) all-hazards library, plus an NFPA-170-style fire pre-plan set (hydrants, fire alarm control panels, suppression equipment, and facility markers). Placed icons are listed in the object tree where they can be shown, hidden, or removed, and the viewer's undo button reverts the last placement.
  • Sun & Shadow: Shows how sunlight and shadows fall across the 3D model at any date and time. Set the date and time in the panel, then play to animate shadows moving through the day in real time. Includes weather-aware lighting that pulls actual weather data for the model's location. Requires a model location — GPS-georeferenced models use their embedded coordinates automatically; non-georeferenced models prompt the user to set a location and manually align north. Premium tool; included in the limited-time gated viewer tool access through July 31, 2026, then returns to normal plan gating.
  • Image Walkthroughs (All Tiers): Automatically generated from uploaded videos. Image icons appear inside the 3D model and along the video's capture path. Click an image to open the image viewer for finer detail, zoom, and pan. Works with all videos, not just 360 footage. With 360 videos, users can look in every direction. Users can also click other image icons inside the image viewer to navigate through the 3D model. This is quicker, easier, and better than Matterport-style walkthroughs because it is generated automatically from the video. Walkthrough cameras also appear on public/shared links, including combined 3D Overlay scenes.
  • Advanced Tools & Capabilities (Premium/Premium Advanced Only):
    • Volume measurements
    • Factual Diagram: Premium report-generation workflow for court-ready factual diagrams. It uses a reference point, annotations, measurements, a top-down overview, and a generated sketch page to produce a PDF. Case number and description are optional, blank fields are omitted, and generated PDFs include SkyeBrowse branding, scale/compass overlays when available, annotation callouts, and measurement pages.
    • AI Factual Diagram: Premium option that drafts a neutral factual description from user-provided scene notes plus model metadata, annotations, measurements, length unit, and scale/georeference status. It should be used for factual descriptions only, not for conclusions, fault, speed, cause, or crash reconstruction opinions.
    • AI Site Plan (CAD): Premium tool that traces the model's orthophoto into a CAD-ready site plan overlay. Site-plan/floor-plan overlays and measurements can be exported through Export CAD as DXF or GeoJSON; georeferenced export modes are available when the model is georeferenced.
    • Tactical Tools: Topographical Map View (elevation heat map — colors the model surface by elevation), Topographic Map (overlays elevation contour lines on the model; adjust contour spacing with a slider to control line density), Sun & Shadow, Slope Map, POV Tool.
    • Case Gallery: Upload images as annotations that pop up when clicked, view all images uploaded to the model for additional documentation.
    • Image Overlay: Pin reference images directly onto your 3D models with full positioning, scaling, and opacity controls. Overlays persist for sharing via public links.
    • 3D Overlay: Combine and manage multiple model layers within a single viewer session. Allows merging disparate data (e.g., interior and exterior models) into one scene for seamless walkthroughs (e.g., roof, walls, and interior rooms in one viewer).
  • Other Features (Plan-dependent): Screenshot, Video Playback/Frame Export, Download Assets (LAZ, GLB, OBJ, USDZ, GeoTIFF, CAD when available - Lite/Premium/PPM), Thermal Mapping, Night Ops (needs lighting), Sharing, Reorientation Tool (Reorient models along the Y-axis with one click; state persists across sessions), and 360 Image Viewer for rotating around uploaded 360 imagery.
  • Public Link Viewing: Anyone with a shared public link can explore the model, including image walkthrough cameras. Paid flythrough styles on a public link prompt visitors to sign up. On mobile, the Help button restarts the viewer onboarding tour at any time.

Premium Advanced also includes AI moving object removal, which automatically removes moving people and vehicles from your 3D model - beneficial for clean scene documentation.

Training Models

A training model is a model that does not count towards your model credits. It is deleted after 90 days. Training models are unlimited on Premium and Premium Advanced and are useful for onboarding, testing capture techniques, and practicing analysis workflows. Training models are separate from formal in-person/POST-certified training, which is quoted separately based on package, agency needs, and number of students.

Credit Mechanics & Usage

  • What counts as a final model: A processed 3D model the agency chooses to generate at the Premium or Premium Advanced tier. Each final output consumes one credit at the selected tier.
  • What does NOT use credits: Viewing, measuring, sharing, exporting, adding users, and creating training models. Credits are only consumed by final model processing.
  • Failed models: Credits are intended for successful final outputs. If a model fails to process correctly, contact support and the team will help resolve it.
  • Mixing credit tiers: Agencies that purchase both Premium and Premium Advanced credits can choose the appropriate processing tier per scene based on importance and complexity.
  • One video → multiple models: Each final processed model uses one credit. Processing the same scene multiple times as separate final outputs consumes a credit per output, unless handled as a training model or support reprocess.
  • Topping up mid-year: Credits can be added at any time during the fiscal year. Added credits follow the same rollover terms as the original purchase.
  • Why credits instead of monthly seats: Premium is priced around final model output rather than user seats, which is why agencies can add unlimited users, train their whole team, and only spend credits when they create final Premium or Premium Advanced models.

No Seat Fees / Department Licensing

SkyeBrowse pricing is not based on seats. Premium plans include unlimited users, so agencies can give access to investigators, drone teams, command staff, prosecutors, analysts, and other authorized users without per-person fees or separate department/unit licenses.

Upgrade Paths

  • Freemium and Lite users can upgrade to Premium or Premium Advanced when their agency needs CJIS compliance, chain of custody, higher accuracy, longer storage, advanced analysis tools, or higher-tier processing.
  • Individual Freemium models can be unlocked via Pay Per Model to gain Lite-level features for that model, without a full plan upgrade.

When to Choose Premium Advanced over Premium

Choose Premium Advanced when the workflow needs the highest-quality forensic data, the cleanest model outputs, very large uploads (unlimited file size), enhanced interior mapping, or automatic removal of moving people and vehicles. Premium fits most public safety documentation workflows; Premium Advanced is best for the most demanding investigations and reconstructions.

Budgeting & Credit Quantity Guidance

  • How to budget: Estimate the number of final investigative, operational, or documentation models the agency expects to create per year, then purchase enough credits to cover that usage with a buffer. Unused credits roll into the next annual term, so larger upfront purchases do not reduce flexibility.
  • How many credits to buy: Lean toward the higher end of the estimate. Rollover protects extras, and a larger upfront purchase leaves room for unexpected incidents, major cases, special events, multi-scene investigations, and occasional 3D models that need final-deliverable processing.

Example Annual Packages (Customize with any amount of credits)

  • 30 Premium Credits: $2,970/year
  • 75 Premium Credits: $7,425/year
  • 30 Premium Advanced Credits: $5,970/year
  • 50 Premium Advanced Credits: $9,950/year
  • 75 Premium Advanced Credits: $14,925/year
  • 100 Premium Advanced Credits: $19,990/year

Section 8: Tutorial Overviews (Conceptual)

SkyeBrowse provides tutorials covering:

  • Core Workflow: Capture (App/Manual/Other) -> Transfer Files -> Upload (Universal/App, "Interior" toggle) -> Cloud Process -> Analyze/Share.
  • Universal Upload Best Practices: For manual video from any source (drones, phones), including optimal capture techniques (pointing down, smooth motion, subject centered) and uploading video + GPS files.
  • Interior Mapping Techniques: Specifics for Smartphones (1080p/60fps, wide-angle, vertical, slow/smooth), FPV Drones like DJI Avata (1080p/60fps, EIS, slow/smooth), and 360 Cameras (exported equirectangular MP4, slow/smooth). All use "Interior Mapping" toggle and often require Scale Tool.
  • Merging Models (3D Overlays - Premium): Stack multiple models in the same viewer (e.g., overlaying an interior model on an exterior model) to create a single, merged scene. No file switching or manual alignment guessing required. Traditional visual linking via annotations is also supported.

Section 9: Troubleshooting & Support

  • Flight App Issues: 1. Check official compatibility. 2. Restart devices. 3. Use Universal Upload as fallback.
  • Processing Failures ("! FAILED"): Failed models do not use credits. 1. Re-upload. 2. Check video quality (clear, steady, overlap, no excess sky/ceiling). 3. Report to support (Model URL/ID).
  • Inverted Models: Caused by too much sky/ceiling or jerky motion. Use flip tool. Improve capture technique.
  • Incorrect Measurements (Universal Upload):
    • Drone Video: Ensure GPS .SRT/.ASS uploaded with video.
    • Non-GPS Video (Phone/GoPro): MUST use Scale Tool (Lite/Premium) with a known measurement.

  • Line of Sight: Viewer analysis tool that places up to two observer points on the textured model, coloring visible areas green and hidden/blocked areas red. One observer = 1-way LoS; two observers = 2-way comparison showing what each point can see simultaneously. Observer location, viewing direction, range, and field of view are all adjustable. Each Line of Sight can be named when placed and renamed from the object tree, with the name shown on a pill beside the camera handle. Included in the limited-time gated viewer tool access through July 31, 2026, then returns to normal plan gating.
  • Public Safety Icons: Viewer marker tool (labeled "Icons" in the Measure tools) that places standardized fire, law enforcement, EMS, and all-hazards map symbols on the 3D model, drawn from the NAPSG symbology library and an NFPA-170-style fire pre-plan set. Placed icons are managed from the object tree and the last placement can be reverted with undo.
  • Sun & Shadow: Viewer tool that simulates sunlight and shadow across the 3D model at any date and time. Animates through the day to show how shadows move. Uses weather-aware lighting based on the model's real-world location. Requires model coordinates (from GPS data or manually entered). Premium tool; included in limited-time gated access through July 31, 2026.
  • Topographic Map: Viewer tool that overlays elevation contour lines on the 3D model. Adjustable contour spacing controls line density. Distinct from the Topographical Map View (heat map), which colors the surface by elevation. Premium tool.
  • Factual Diagram: Premium PDF diagram generated from the viewer. It can include a top-down overview, sketch page, annotations, measurements, case number, factual description, scale bar, and compass when available.
  • AI Factual Diagram: Premium factual-diagram option that asks the user for scene details and uses AI to draft a neutral factual description from those notes plus model metadata, annotations, and measurements.
  • AI Site Plan (CAD): Premium Create tool that converts the model orthophoto into a CAD-ready site plan overlay for downstream DXF/GeoJSON export when available.
  • Image Walkthroughs: Auto-generated clickable image path inside a 3D model. Users open images for finer detail, zoom, pan, and navigation between image viewpoints.
  • Image & 3D Overlay: Tools for pinning reference images or layering multiple models.
  • Reorient Tool: One-click Y-axis model reorientation that persists across sessions.
  • Walk Mode: First-person, ground-level navigation mode in the viewer. Walk through a model at eye level using WASD keys, with adjustable move speed and eye height.
  • Bird View: Overhead, aerial-style camera movement mode in the viewer, paired with Walk Mode in the View controls.

Section 11: Selected FAQs (Summary)

  • Q: Didn't see the measuring tools on the 3D viewer. Not sure if I should restart my browser to get the tools to load. A: If you zoom out of the browser by pressing Ctrl - (on windows) or Cmd - (on mac), it will show the tools.
  • Q: Install Flight App on DJI Smart Controller/RC Pro? A: Sideload Android APK from https://www.skyebrowse.com/download.
  • Q: DJI RC/RC-N1 for Mini 3 Pro App? A: No, Mini 3 Pro needs DJI RC Pro for Flight App. Use Universal Upload.
  • Q: Multiple videos for one model? A: Standard is 1 video/model. Premium can upload multiple videos (up to 3). Premium Advanced can upload multiple videos (up to 10). Premium can also add annotations with images.
  • Q: What are Image Walkthroughs? A: All tiers get automatically generated image icons inside the 3D model and along the video's capture path. Click an image to inspect finer details, zoom, pan, and navigate to other image viewpoints. Works with all videos and is especially useful with 360 video because users can look in every direction.
  • Q: What is Line of Sight? A: Line of Sight is a viewer tool that lets users place up to two observer points on the textured 3D model and see what's visible (green) or blocked (red) from each point. One observer gives a 1-way view; placing a second adds a 2-way comparison so you can see what both points can see at the same time. Users can adjust observer location, viewing direction, range, and field of view, then clear from the View panel. Included in limited-time gated access through July 31, 2026; Freemium and Lite users see a limited-time access popup during that period.
  • Q: What is Sun & Shadow? A: Sun & Shadow is a Premium viewer tool that simulates how sunlight and shadows fall across your 3D model at any date and time. Set the date and time in the panel and press play to watch shadows animate through the day. It uses weather-aware lighting based on real weather data for the model's location. The tool requires a model location — georeferenced models use their GPS data automatically; non-georeferenced models ask you to enter a location and manually set north.
  • Q: What is the Topographic Map tool? A: Topographic Map overlays elevation contour lines on the 3D model. Use the contour spacing slider in the panel to control how many lines appear. This is different from the Topographical Map View (heat map), which colors the model surface by elevation. Both are Premium tools.
  • Q: What is the Public Safety Icons tool? A: It is a viewer tool, labeled "Icons" in the Measure tools, that places standardized public-safety map symbols on the 3D model for scene documentation and pre-planning. The searchable picker covers fire, law enforcement, EMS, and all-hazards symbology from the NAPSG (National Alliance for Public Safety GIS) library plus an NFPA-170-style fire pre-plan set such as hydrants, alarm panels, and suppression equipment. Placed icons are listed in the object tree to show, hide, or remove, and the undo button reverts the last placement.
  • Q: What is the AI Factual Diagram tool? A: AI Factual Diagram is a Premium factual-diagram workflow. Users provide scene notes such as location, unit labels, evidence meanings, and direction/orientation. SkyeBrowse uses those notes plus model metadata, annotations, and measurements to draft a neutral factual description, then generates the normal factual diagram PDF. It should not be used to infer fault, cause, speed, or reconstruction conclusions.
  • Q: What is AI Site Plan (CAD)? A: AI Site Plan (CAD) is a Premium Create tool that traces the model orthophoto into a CAD-ready site plan overlay. Site-plan and floor-plan overlays, along with measurements, can be exported through Export CAD as DXF or GeoJSON when available.
  • Q: Delete a model? A: Via (...) on model card on dashboard.
  • Q: Do failed models use credits? A: No. Failed models do not use credits.
  • Q: DTM generation? A: No, SkyeBrowse creates DSMs. Export LAZ for 3rd party DTM creation.
  • Q: Subscription expiry? A: Reverts to Freemium; locks paid features/older models. However, for Premium and Premium Advanced users, your data remains stored and accessible for 5 years from the date of creation, even if you do not renew your subscription.
  • Q: Desktop app? A: No, 100% cloud-based (https://app.skyebrowse.com).
