How to 3D map a crime scene with a DJI Mavic 3 Pro

To 3D map a crime scene with a DJI Mavic 3 Pro, fly it manually in its native app and record one continuous video, then upload the video to SkyeBrowse. SkyeBrowse processes it in the cloud at about one minute per minute of video and returns a measurable 3D model of the scene with image walkthroughs, annotations, and a chain-of-custody log. Upload the drone's .SRT subtitle file with the video to georeference the model, and Public Safety & Enterprise models reach 0.1 inch accuracy without ground control points.

Applies to the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, Mavic 3 Classic, and Mavic 3 Cine.

Capture the crime scene documentation with the Mavic 3 Pro

Manual flight

The SkyeBrowse Flight App does not support the Mavic 3 Pro, so fly it in its native app. Record one continuous video while moving around the scene. Keep the camera pointed down at the subject, keep zoom locked, move smoothly, avoid excess sky, and finish with overlap where you started.

Add the interior

Use the Mavic 3 Pro for the exterior. Record the interior with a phone (4K recommended, 60fps, wide-angle, slow and smooth) or a 360 camera, upload it with the Interior Mapping toggle on, and merge both models with 3D Overlay (Premium).

Georeference the model

Turn on video subtitle (.SRT) recording in the DJI camera settings before takeoff. Upload the .SRT file with the video and SkyeBrowse georeferences the model automatically.

Process the video

Upload the MP4 or MOV file at app.skyebrowse.com. Processing runs at about one minute per minute of video, and most models are ready 5 to 10 minutes after upload. Public Safety & Enterprise models reach 0.1 inch accuracy and Commercial models reach 0.5 inch, with no ground control points.

Outputs and measurements for crime scene documentation

3D Overlay

Stack an interior model on the exterior drone model in one viewer so investigators walk the whole scene without switching files.

Line of Sight

Place up to two observer points and see visible areas in green and blocked areas in red. Included with Pro models and Public Safety & Enterprise.

Case Gallery and Image Walkthroughs

Attach evidence photos to annotations and open auto-generated images along the capture path for finer detail.

Security and custody

Hosted on AWS GovCloud (US) with CJIS compliance maintained for Public Safety & Enterprise subscribers. Model access, user actions, and sharing are logged.

Frequently asked questions

Does the SkyeBrowse Flight App support the DJI Mavic 3 Pro?

No. Fly the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, Mavic 3 Classic, and Mavic 3 Cine manually in the native app and upload the MP4 or MOV video through Universal Upload at app.skyebrowse.com.

How do I get accurate measurements from Mavic 3 Pro video?

Turn on video subtitle (.SRT) recording in the DJI camera settings before takeoff. Upload the .SRT file with the video and SkyeBrowse georeferences the model automatically.

Can SkyeBrowse map the inside of a building at a crime scene?

Yes. Record slow, steady video with a phone, 360 camera, or FPV drone, turn on the Interior Mapping toggle at upload, and use the Scale Tool with a known measurement when the video has no GPS data.

Is SkyeBrowse CJIS compliant?

SkyeBrowse is hosted on AWS GovCloud (US) and full CJIS compliance is maintained for Public Safety & Enterprise subscribers.
